How HVAC Suite works.

End-to-end guide to the HVAC Thermal Suite. Last updated 2026-07-05.

1. Getting started

HVAC Thermal Suite is a cloud calculation platform for HVAC and thermal engineering teams. Each module solves a specific design or selection problem and produces a validated, reportable result.

Sign in at hvac.hyphenscs.com/login. New users register from the same page; an admin reviews the request before the account becomes active. Once active, you'll land on the Dashboard.

Every successful run costs credits — admins grant a balance to your account. Failed runs are refunded automatically.

2. Calculation modules

The catalogue covers Zone Load & Airflow, chillers, fan coil units, rooftop units, condensing units, fans, AHUs, plate heat exchangers (air-to-air, brazed, gasketed, shell-and-tube), cooling towers, CoilLab, HeatPipeLab, MicroChannelLab, and MiscTools (psychrometrics, LMTD, unit converter).

Pick a module from the dashboard, fill the input form, and submit. Inputs are validated client-side before any credit is debited. Results render in the same view with charts and a summary table; you can download a branded PDF report from the Reports tab afterwards.

Start with Zone Load & Airflow if you're sizing from the building rather than from an already-known airflow — enter the space's floor area, envelope, glazing, occupancy, and ventilation category, and it computes the cooling/heating load, recommended supply airflow, supply air temperature, and outside-air fraction. Inside a project, click "Use in AHU →" on its results panel and the AHU form arrives pre-filled with those numbers instead of asking you to retype them.

AHU also has its own "Input calculators" panel and climate-zone auto-fill for when you know a sensible load but not the airflow it implies — pick a climate zone to fill outdoor design conditions, or open the calculators to derive supply airflow, outside-air fraction, and fan external static pressure from basic numbers.

Module pricing is set by admins under Admin → Module costs.

3. Credits & billing

Each run debits the module's price from your balance the moment you submit. If the calculation fails (backend error, timeout), the credit is automatically refunded and the run is marked Failed in your Run history.

The credit ledger is append-only. Your current balance is always reconstructable as SUM(credits) WHERE user_id = you.

Need more credits? Contact your account admin or write to support@hyphenscs.com.

4. Projects

Projects group runs that belong together — a single building, a tender, a customer site. From Projects → New, give it a name and short description.

When running a module, pick a project from the dropdown to attach the run. The PDF report carries the project name in its cover page.

5. Reports

Every completed run can be downloaded as a PDF. Reports include the engineer block (your name, designation, company), the chosen equipment model and climate zone (when applicable), all input fields, the calculated results, and a credit ledger snippet for audit.

Reports are deterministic — they're regenerated from the stored run data each time, so re-downloading never costs an extra credit.

6. Equipment library

Admins curate a catalogue of manufacturer models (chillers, AHUs, etc.) under Admin → Equipment. When running a module, pick a model to pre-fill capacity, COP, refrigerant, and other category-specific specs.

The picked model is recorded on the run and rendered on the PDF report.

7. Climate zones

Climate zones supply design dry-bulb, wet-bulb, RH, altitude, and ASHRAE classification for your project's geography. Admins manage them under Admin → Climate zones.

When running a module, pick a zone to pre-fill ambient conditions. The picked zone is recorded on the run and shown on the PDF report.

8. Admin features

Users — approve/suspend, set role, grant credits, send password resets. Approval emails go to the user automatically.

Equipment & Climate zones — add/edit/import via CSV. Used by the run pickers.

Module costs — set the credit price of each module. Changes take effect on the next run.

System logs — append-only audit trail of every login, run, credit movement, and admin action.

Email test — send a test transactional email to verify SMTP credentials.

9. Getting help

Read the changelog to see what's new. File a bug or feature request from the Feedback page — admins are notified and reply in-thread.
